I used to be a food lover but now I am more focused on businesses rather than food. I love hanging out with my best buddies trying out new restaurants and new food available locally in Shillong and all those who knew me and my gang; knew that I love trying new food and adventures.
But I guess I’ve turned into a new leaf now with a completely new character. Well, things change and I’m very much at ease with my metaphors process.
There is so much important thing in life apart from food and adventures but however; I love sharing this recipe with you.
If you live in Shillong you probably know that Tung tap is the most loved local chutney amongst the Khasi-Pnar community be it summer or winter!
There are various recipes for making tung tap chutney but nothing beats the taste like making it, the conventional way.

TUNGTAP – THE CHUTNEY THAT WILL WARM YOUR HEART

- Spoon or spatula for scopping
- Cute bowl to keep the chutney
Ingredients
- 4-5 pcs tung tap
- 1 pc fried fish or steamed potato
- 1 pc steamed tomato

- Slice organic turmeric into 4-5 slices or you can use turmeric powder. (I prefer using fresh lakadong turmeric). Add salt, chillies, jyllang (green scallion) and Jaiur (sichuan pepper), onions, garlic.
- Grind all the above ingredients together or else one step at a time pounded them with the help of a motor and pestle.
- Then when everything blends well together; mash 1 steamed potato or 1 dried fish and add to the above ingredients. Add 1 steam tomato so that it will be a bit juicy.
- Grind or pounded it all until you got a smooth consistency without any lump remaining and viola! Your tungtap chutney is ready.

- Cut one tomato into small pieces.
- Now blend and mix all the above ingredients together and add salt to taste.

Wait for a minute or two for the oil to get heated on a low flame and then add finely chopped onions to it. - Now add chillies.

- Add salt to taste. Covered for a few minutes till the tomatoes become super soft.
Then constantly start stirring and mash the tomatoes as well with the help of the spatula that you are using for stirring, till it makes a fine paste. - Then add 3-4 pieces of tungtap to it, and keep stirring.
- All this should be done on a low flame heat, cooking and stirring it gently.
- After a few minutes, your tomatoes fried tung tap is ready!
We have it with rice or with steamed potatoes. Hope you enjoy making this tung tap chutney recipe and share your thoughts below.
